NO SERIOUSLY

we just got home from a cruise. we sailed from NY to the bahamas. two major reasons we chose a cruise was:

1) no flying. i have never even blogged about the 10 hour flight from france to NY. i'm still mentally blocking how horrible it was and how scarred it left me.

2) kids camp. unfortch, the girls did not take to kids camp. instead, everytime we tried to leave them there, lily clung to my legs trying to climb back up from whence she came. the first morning, we dropped them off, and we were called within 30 minutes because they wouldn't stop crying. the second morning was slightly better. lily cried on and off for an hour, and then we were forced to pick her up. pearl stayed for 3 hours, and when i arrived to pick her up for lunch, there was a giant stuffed, plushie smoke stack named freddie there (pearl HATES life sized plushies.. micky mouse, elmo, you name it)... so the rest of the time she cried that she didn't like "paddy" and didn't want to go back to camp. who the hell thought it was a good idea to create a plushie smoke stack??.. what's so fun about that??

this whole situation made me furious at them. what had i done wrong to raise such co dependant children?? i watched enviously as other parents just dropped their kids off, waved good bye and could enjoy their time as their kids enjoyed camp. lily tried to hold my hand as we were leaving camp, and i actually pulled my hand away from her... i know! i'm awful.

so while vacation was fun, it was also very hard.. lots of work, lots of tantrums and melt downs..

the following conversations actually happened.. i couldn't make it up if i tried..

me: lily, you better behave, or believe me, you will get a time out!!
lily: no mommy, i do not believe you.

me: pearl, do you want a time out?
pearl: yes, put me in time out.

bc3: lily, if you don't behave, i will spank you.
pearl: don't say that daddy, that's not nice.

me: lily, i do not like your behavior.
pearl: mommy, you like my behavior??

and the piece de resistance:

pouring myself a glass of wine.
me: you girls are driving me to drink.
pearl: we're making you thirsty, mommy??

Um, could you blog about your 10hr. plane ride to france? That sounds very very funny. We are going to Paris in a month.....Also, I really sympathize with the co-dependency and children. It sucks pretty bad. But, that wine at the end of the day is a wonderful thing, huh?

hi jessica,
i'm not sure i can bring myself to blog about it.. but your trip to france should be interesting. may is also older so hopefully won't be too bad. you'll have a layover, no? just bring lots of food, entertainment, and the calms forte.. which btw danielle turned me onto to!! i swear by it. also red eyes are the key. the girls slept the whole time going.. it was the return trip that was killer. also people didn't realize they were twins, so they just thought it was one really noisy and crazy active baby! have fun!
