so tonight, the weekend before thanksgiving, we had a "fakes"giving. we made all the fixin's and no turkey whatsoever. who cares about the turkey! it's usually dry, tasteless and pasty anyway. instead we bought a spin chicken from the supermarket as our stand in, surrogate poultry. i made the best, and i do mean THE(long E)BEST oyster stuffing in the universe. sandy made her families famous corn puff. jen made the smoothest mash potatoes.. and just so we wouldn't go into carb overload, we threw in some string beans for good measure. and of course there was the store bought chicken... (but i did make a delish white wine gravy from the au juice.)
along with all this, we killed 4 bottles of prosecco (between 5 adults), many bottles of beer, a pear tart, and a mini pumpkin pie.
the point of our fakesgiving was to serve only sides, and sides which were not going to be served at our real thanksgiving on thursday... but the oyster stuffing was soooo daaaaamn goooood, that it might have to make a reappearance. and corn puff is just far and wide better than just opening up a can of corn and nuking it in the microwave.
tonight during all the festivities, bc3 and i looked at each other, almost simultaneously. a quick thought passed between us completely wordless. "we don't want to go...we're not going."
this was in reference to our much debated move to madison wisconsin. we were having so much fun, just eating, laughing, making merry that we knew in our hearts that we could not leave this.
the girls were running around, having so much fun, we were in our element. this is where we belong.. i just wish it weren't so hard sometimes.
we are loved here... we love being here. we love OUR people here. this is our lives, not my job or my salary.
i'm not saying that we're not moving.. not just yet. we don't take this decision lightly. we still have to do what's best for our financial future and the future of lily and pearl....but we'll do everything in our power to stay...
and if we go, we'll go kicking and screaming.
